I was a Professor of History and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Washington University in St. Louis for 27 years. While there I found my passion in helping students and colleagues understand exactly what they want to say and how to say it in the clearest, most persuasive, and most powerful terms.
about me
My own research has focused on gender, sexuality and political culture in the 20th century United States. Among my publications, I have authored two books and many articles in leading journals in my field, including the Journal of American History, American Quarterly, Gender and History, and the Journal of the History of Sexuality.
I am also interested in local history, oral history, and public history initiatives. I am a founder, co-director and lead writer on Mapping LGBTQ St. Louis, 1945-1992, a digital humanities project.
After retiring in 2023, I decided to pursue my passion for collaborating with authors on their projects (and hiking). I look forward to working with you on your own publishing journey.
