my approach
After retiring from a 27-year career as a professor of History and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, I have returned to the work I love: investing in the publishing success of colleagues. My background as professor at an R-1 institution means that I understand the processes of editing and coaching from many sides:
AS A WRITER, I know the challenges of developing an analysis over time, of crafting accessible and elegant prose, of seeing a project through its many steps so that it finally appears in print.
AS A PROFESSOR AND MENTOR, I am familiar with the pressures of academic publishing: learning to write for diverse audiences, responding to reader’s reports or advisors’ feedback, needing to complete a project on a timeline that doesn’t seem possible.
AS A MANUSCRIPT REVIEWER, I know what’s necessary to present a persuasive argument, to make a project stand out, to convince a publisher that it’s worth the risk of offering a contract.
What I offer to you:
A focus on your ideas, your needs, your challenges, and your goals
Clear and timely communication
A reputation as an excellent listener, a superb reader, and a first-rate writer
A proven history of mentoring diverse scholars, including first-gen, multilingual and scholars of color
Empathy (I’ve been through it—and survived!)
I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the services I offer, pricing, and policies. And I look forward to hearing about your projects, your goals, and how I might help.
